Wishing everyone a dear Mother's Day

It's Mother's Day and I just wanted to wish all the mothers out there a very happy day. Mother's day is a tradition that has been celebrated for over 150 years in the United States (ever since Anna Jarvis decided that we needed a day to honor mothers). Despite Jarvis' thinking, Mother's Day has been celebrated since Roman and Greek cultures used to honor the mother of the Gods.
In honor of Mother's Day, google has re-designed their logo again into this beauty...

Actor/dancer Fred Astaire was born today in 1889. Many know him as the talented man who danced with Ginger Rogers, although he has starred with a few other well known actress. He appeared with Audrey Hepburn in Funny Face, and also with Judy Garland in the Easter Parade.

Max Steiner would be celebrating a birthday today (1888). An Austrian composer, he has worked on films such as Casablanca, The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, Gone with the Wind, King Kong--the list goes on. He was even know as Bette Davis' favorite film composer.

In case any of you were curious I thought I would point out that the new STAR TREK has became the number 1 movie of the weekend earning $76.5 million just this weekend. I myself am not a Trekkie, but I thought that was too amazing not to mention. (It even beat out THE DARK KNIGHT in earnings!) So, to all you Trekkie's out there--apparently it is a good movie.

Happy Mother's Day! I hope you enjoyed it. Fred Astaire is the best. It's sad that the days of the actor-dancer are pretty much over.
