Stars With Bad Habits...

Judy Garland was born today in 1922. She has always been a Hollywood icon to me. I grew up watching The Wizard of Oz, and A Star is Born is one of my all--time favorite movies. Of course you hear about her dramatic personal life, but all that aside, she was amazing and we have to appreciate her for that talent.

Children's author and illustrator, Maurice Sendak is 81 today (1928). He was one of my favorite authors as a kid. I was a big fan of "Little Bear," and "Where the Wild Things Are" is still a favorite. I still have the book, and now that they are making a movie of it, I couldn't be happier.

In 1998, a jury in Jacksonville, Florida ordered the Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corp to pay a family $950,000, plus $450,000 in punitive damages to family of a man who died of lung cancer.
In a 2005 lawsuit against the tobacco industry, the U.S. government scaled back its demands for penalties from $130 billion to $10 billion. The government had asked for the larger sum in order to help 45 million U.S. residents quit smoking.
Despite these landmark cases, the fashion industry still uses cigarettes in their modeling. Not that I blame them, these pictures are nice. Do you think they could be executed just as well if these models were not holding cigarettes?

Maybe cigarette companies are the major sponsors, therefore they were added to the shoot?

I love Judy Garland! She's so iconic.

I think smoking is absolutely disgusting. For stars to do it is criminal, but I definitely do see the aesthetic appeal of it in editorials.

Lovely images of Judy, in the second one she reminds me of Britney a bit.

Judy Garland was so stunning. And I am so looking forward to seeing Where The Wild Things Are!! I have always wondered about cigarettes in fashion shoots. Whilst I would never smoke, I actually do love the imagery a wisp of smoke or flame of a lighter can add to a shoot :)
