Children's author and illustrator, Maurice Sendak is 81 today (1928). He was one of my favorite authors as a kid. I was a big fan of "Little Bear," and "Where the Wild Things Are" is still a favorite. I still have the book, and now that they are making a movie of it, I couldn't be happier.
In 1998, a jury in Jacksonville, Florida ordered the Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corp to pay a family $950,000, plus $450,000 in punitive damages to family of a man who died of lung cancer.
In a 2005 lawsuit against the tobacco industry, the U.S. government scaled back its demands for penalties from $130 billion to $10 billion. The government had asked for the larger sum in order to help 45 million U.S. residents quit smoking.
Despite these landmark cases, the fashion industry still uses cigarettes in their modeling. Not that I blame them, these pictures are nice. Do you think they could be executed just as well if these models were not holding cigarettes?
