Degas and Bloomers...

French painter Edgar Degas was born today in 1834. He is most famous for painting ballet scenes. I actually have a copy of the first painting hanging up in my room.

This is the rendition photographed by Patrick Demarchelier for 2002 Harper's Bazaar:

Today is 1848, Amelia Bloomer introduced "bloomers" at the 1st women's rights convention in Seneca Falls, NY. The clothing was seen as radical being full trousers. Compared to now, though, you couldn't get more conservative wearing these.
